That would depend on when you had sex relative to when you ovulate. Sperm can live in your body for 3-5 days -- the egg dies within a day. So, there is roughly a 6 day range when sex can lead to conception and from there to pregnancy. (It only takes a few hours for the sperm to swim from the vagina into your tubes, so if there IS an egg waiting, conception could occur within a few hours.)
References :
Once the woman's body releases an egg (ovulation), it will live for 24-48 hours, and must be fertilized during this time for pregnancy to occur. However, sperm can live in a woman's body for up to 5-7 days, so you can technically become pregnant if you have sex up to 1 week prior to ovulation. If you know the date of ovulation, anyone you slept with up to 1 week prior and for several days afterward could be the father of the baby. If you don't know the date of ovulation, anyone you slept with since the first day of your last period could be the father. If there is any doubt about the paternity of the child, the only way to prove it is a DNA test.

BTW, Once conception occurs, it will take an additional 6-10 days for the fertilized egg to travel to the uterus and implant itself in the lining, thus establishing pregnancy.
References :
NO NO NO! This is NOT an effective form of birth control, because you can ovulate at any point in your cycle. Usually it is at a certain time, but not always, and you don't want to be stuck (unless you really aren't trying not to get pregnant). I learned all about it when I was TRYING and charting my periods and ovulation. Your body will do what it wants. Much better to use something more reliable. Good luck!
References :
If you want to use this method of birth control, there are quite a few things you need to learn to watch for so that you can actually tell when you are ovulating and when you are *about* to ovulate. It's not as simple as assuming you ovulate 2 weeks after you start your period - it is different for different women b/c you may have a unique cycle that does not fit the 'average' cycle. If you're really interested in it, check out the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" (should be available at a public library or of course you can buy it). There is also a great website www.fertilityfriend.com . You'll be amazed at all the information they have on this method.
References :
Some religions insist you only use the calendar method so it must work some of the time. However, you often see these families with many children so it doesn't work all of the time...
